Spring in Kilkenny!!!!
This weekend two friends and I took a spontaneous trip to the small town of Kilkenny! We climbed The Round Tower which is the oldest standing structure in Kilkenny City and explored Kilkenny Castle which was built in 1172!! Because of the fantastic weather the whole town was out and about with their pets and kids. It was so warm that we laid down in the grass in front of the castle for over an hour and just enjoyed the sun and clouds.
For dinner we decided to have a progressive meal. We started by sharing appetizers at one place and the main course at another ect. It was so much fun but I ate way too much!
The next day we rented a few bikes and explored the countryside! We had a basic road map but after traveling for about a hour we realized that we had made a wrong turn and traveled in a complete circle. So we turned around and tried again! The country was absolutely gorgeous. The land was so green and rolling and the air was so fresh. It actually reminded me of Indiana but much greener and instead of wooden fences they use stone walls.
Along the way in the middle of nowhere we found a bed and breakfast and we were so hungry that we decided to stop and see if they were open for lunch. Unfortunatley the only thing home was a calico cat. Eventually we made it to Kells, a village in County Kilkenny. We arrived starving and exhausted! After asking around we found that the only place open to get food was a small place called Shirley’s. Because it was a Sunday afternoon they were only serving pizza - so we ordered TWO! So delicious. Next we explored the Kells Priory. Though in ruins, it is is one of the best preserved in Ireland. After walking around awhile we headed home. We were incredibly exhausted and were very tempted to ask someone for a ride back but we stayed strong and eventually we made it back! It was a great weekend!
